After finally sitting down for 5 minutes after a very busy errand-running morning, my home phone rang.
I was too tired to get up and check to see who it was, suspecting it was just another sales or donation call. When I heard my name and a personal message being left, I hopped up and listened to the message.
It was my nurse . . . Alicia. She's the one who took care of us during my labor with Jackson and she was checking to see how I was doing and if I had any questions.
My intent for several months now has been to send her a hand written thank you card for her loving care, but I wanted to wait until I could be assured this baby would be delivered with no other alternatives.
I am 5 days from that point!
I attempted to return Alicia's call but was unsuccessful. Not wanting to let the opportunity pass, I grabbed her business card out of my wallet and decided to email her.
In the email, I thanked her for her loving and professional care, care that lacked awkwardness, discomfort, or made me feel like an outcast. It was perfect for my needs the night we met in L&D to confirm Jackson's death and the following day throughout my labor and immediate postpartum care.
If there is anyway it can happen, I want Alicia as my L&D nurse when Dash is born. In fact, I want it badly enough that as I've hunted for a new OB, the main requirement has been that the doctor must delivery at the Birthing Inn, because I know if I go to any of the other hospitals in the area, Alicia isn't an option as my nurse, and I want at least the option.
And tomorrow at 8am I meet a new OB. Her last name is Allen, which puts a smile on my face since it is my family name. I am hoping she is compassionate and okay with my more holistic tendencies. If not, then there are several other doctors in the practice that I can meet with or I'll run out of time in my pregnancy and it won't matter anyway.
